With Dekmantel and other great events in August, last month was filled with a lot of amazing music. Especially Dekmantel was a great opportunity to discover new music from different genres, that also inspired what I listened to for the rest of the month.
This timeless banger was dropped by Call Super at his Dekmantel main stage set. The Golden Girls’ “Kinetic (Frank De Wulf Remix)” is super energetic and trancey, as well as emotional. A big, epic classic in dance music!
This track always sends me back to Dekmantel’s main stage when Four Tet was playing it. Mathew Jonson’s “Marionette” is a true masterpiece. There’s rarely any other track I know that brings up so many emotions with such simplicity. And the amazing vibes even last for more than 10 minutes.
DJ Lycox “Solteiro” is such a cool track. It includes a sample of DJ Metatron’s “Oh Ah”, a tune that I also really love, combined with rhythmic drumming and tropical vibes – just a dreamy song to lose yourself in.
I highly anticipated Ross from Friends’ debut album that came out late July. I’ve been a fan of his productions for years now. One of my favorite tracks on the album for sure is “Thank God I’m a Lizard”. This is not your average, hollow lo-fi house track. I love the emotional depth of it but also its groovy beat, it feels intimate and distant at the same time.
“Equinoxe” by the French producer Janeret was also part of my August mix. It’s probably the smoothest and most effortless house track out there and takes you to another planet. Super minimal, super dreamy and yet so deep. Aaah, I love it.
Favorite Boiler Room:
This Kornél Kovács Boiler Room was definitely on repeat in August. I love pretty much every track he played and watched this set over and over again, it always gets me in a good mood. This is just a really smooth and effortless house mix, that includes a lot of his productions and remixes.
This month I need to include two Boiler Rooms actually. So another one that I really loved in August is Mama Snake’s Dekmantel set. I hadn’t heard of the Danish techno DJ ’til then, but I was definitely sold on her graceful mixing skills. It’s amazing how she created this fast-paced techno mix without it getting boring for even one second. Who knew that 90’s trance could be this cool? Huge fan, huge fan!
Favorite night out:
August’s main highlight was definitely Dekmantel festival. I saw so many of my favorite artists like Four Tet and Call Super, but also discovered a lot of new music over the weekend. Then there was also Axel Boman at Else in Berlin which was an incredibly fun and danceable set.
In case you missed it, I am now putting up monthly mixes of some of the music I listened to that month. For August I created this high-energy house mix, that includes more of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it!
